As part of our Responsible CareŽ commitment, we have a responsibility to the communities in which we operate to inform them of health, safety and environmental risks associated with the storage and handling of our products. We are also responsible for advising our neighbours of the safety precautions we have taken to ensure not only public safety but also the safety of our employees and the environment.
Our facilities each have an "Emergency Response Plan" in place. Local Fire Departments have toured our plants and are familiar with our operations. They are able to respond to fire or emergency situations within minutes armed with, not only equipment, but with awareness of the hazards and personnel they may be contacting.
Our site managers are part of a national "Transportation Emergency Assistance Plan" (T.E.A.P.) and are trained as technical advisors able to respond to transportation incidents or spills involving our vehicles should accidents occur. Our site managers are also involved with various community awareness programs and committees associated with the chemical industry.
To determine the format each site would use to relay this information to the public, we took a close look at the location of our sites in relationship to their community. Sites located near residential areas produced a brochure to be distributed to local residences and small businesses. Our facilities located in industrial areas composed a newsletter to be distributed to local business and industrial neighbours. Both communications invite our neighbours to contact the respective site manager with questions or requests to visit our facilities.
