Water Treatment - Environmental Remediation

As part of our continuing commitment to the safety of our natural environment, Canada Colors and Chemicals Limited is now offering a variety of products for use in the remediation of contaminated sites. Our extensive line of products can be used in a variety of remediation programmes including, but not limited to, bioremediation, chemical oxidation, and mechanical removal systems.

Bioremediation
An environment impacted by contaminants can be returned to its original condition through biological processes (microorganisms, plants, fungi, or enzymes). Bioremediation is effective on a wide variety of contamination including polychlorinated hydrocarbons, fuel oils, and some metals.

Canada Colors and Chemicals is the sole Canadian distributor for Regenesis, a supplier of slow-release chemicals designed to enhance and accelerate the natural process of bioremediation in the subsurface. These products include Oxygen Release Compound (ORC), an injected powder which can stimulate the aerobic degradation of compounds such as BTEX, TPH, and PAHs, and Hydrogen Release Compound (HRC), a slow-release electron donor which creates anaerobic conditions in the subsurface to induce reductive dechlorination of chlorinated solvents such as PCE, TCE, DCE, and TCA.

Metals Remediation Compound (MRC) can be used to stabilize metals such as Cr, Cu, and As.

Chemical Oxidation
Chemical oxidation uses chemicals called oxidants to destroy pollutants in soil and groundwater. Oxidants can break down the chemical bonds in harmful contaminants and reduce them to harmless constituents.

Canada Colors and Chemicals is the sole distributor for Carus remediation-grade potassium permanganate. Potassium permanganate is effective at oxidizing chlorinated solvents in soils and groundwater.

In addition to its bioremediation products, Regenesis also offers RegenOx, a sodium percarbonate based oxidant that is effective on a wide range of contaminants (BTEX, TPH, and chlorinated solvents).

Fenton's reagent (hydrogen peroxide and ferrous sulfate) is also available. We also offer VTX, a neutral-pH catalyst for Fenton's reactions that precludes need for an aquifer pH adjustment prior to application of the oxidant.

Surfactants
Canada Colors and Chemicals is also the distributor for Ivey-Sol, a non-ionic biosurfactant that is effective at desorbing contaminants from aquifer soils. Desorbed contaminants are more chemically, biologically, and hydraulically available and using Ivey-Sol in conjunction with oxidation, bioremediation, or mechanical recovery systems can significantly increase the effectiveness of those systems at a relatively low cost.

Other Products
Canada Colors and Chemicals also offers a variety of other products that can be used with mechanical removal systems (i.e. pump and treat). These products include activated carbon, flocculants, acids and caustics, and Mycelx adsorbents. We can also provide custom nutrient blends for use in biostimulation projects.
